Studio William Cutlery announces partnership with Ultraviolet by Paul Pairet, the World’s first Multi-Sensorial Restaurant
Cutlery by design-led, British company, Studio William, is set to adorn the table in Ultraviolet, the world’s most innovative, multi-sensorial restaurant, opening in Shanghai today, 18th May 2012.

Ultraviolet is the first experimental restaurant of its kind, attempting to unite food with multi-sensorial technologies in order to create a fully immersive dining experience. Conceived by chef, Paul Pairet, over a period of 15 years, Ultraviolet offers a single table of just ten seats. Its 20-course "Avant-Garde" set menu is enhanced by a taste-tailored atmosphere delivered by the restaurant’s specifically designed technology.

Huge thought has gone into every detail to make the dining experience truly unique, including the choice of Studio William cutlery, which enhances the sensory experience.

Chef, Paul Pairet, said: "You have to listen to Studio William’s founder, William Welch, to understand that cutlery can be a life passion. One of the main things I love is that there's always a key purpose for every Studio William design. It's not just being creative or beautiful for its own sake, it has reasons and functions, which is similar to my own approach and makes Studio William the perfect cutlery partner for Ultraviolet.”

Chief Executive of Studio William, William Welch, said: “The sensory experiences of dining have always been a major influence on our cutlery designs. We are thrilled to be a partner in the world’s first multi-sensorial restaurant and wish Paul every success with Ultraviolet.”

Studio William has secured three International Design Awards for its latest cutlery pattern, Mahogany, which is due to launch in the UK later this year
Mahogany Cutlery has been awarded the Red Dot Award: product design 2012, the iF Product Design Award 2012 and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum Of Architecture And Design Good Design 2011 award. Studio William is the only company outside of Germany to be awarded the iF Product Design Award for cutlery since 1953.

The Mahogany pattern combines satin and mirror finish in one piece, creating a contemporary look and feel suitable for both formal and informal settings. Designers, William Welch and Martin Drury, sought to bring into the design the manufacturing processes that go into creating cutlery through pressing and grinding. The top surface of the cutlery heads are highly polished, while the underside of the spoons and forks are brushed satin, adding a sensory textured experience when placed in the mouth.

The edges of the handles are finished with crafted radii to ensure a delicate ergonomic feeling to the hand, whilst the varying thickness gauges in the handles have been engineered for refined weight and balance.

Commenting on the extraordinary reaction to Mahogany, CEO of Studio William, William Welch, said “We are thrilled to have received three such high calibre International Design Awards for this one pattern – a hat trick no other cutlery pattern has achieved to our knowledge. We are looking forward to launching Mahogany to the retail and food service market in the autumn and hope customers will be as excited by the pattern as the judging panels have been.”

Mahogany will be available in a number of retail stores in the autumn as well as online at Studio William Shop
